episode #20 JAPANESE HOLIDAYS

In Episode #20, I discuss the vast number of Holidays here in Japan. The average Japanese citizen gets more holidays off each year than the average American. Find out how many, and where to work if you want over 24 days off each year!

We go over each of the Japanese holidays, and discuss what to go do, and what to be careful of when visiting during discussed holidays.

Find out what podcast will be resulting from a trip I plan on taking this week, and help me find my dog! Oreo, where the hell are you?

Lots of stories this week from some awesome listeners, and a news story that makes no sense.

“Japanese Phrases of the Week”:

かっこいい = kakkoi = that’s cool
こわい = kowai = that’s scary
かわいい = kawaii = that’s cute

Promos this week come from my first and favorite podcast, Bibb and Yaz (no longer take over the world), and from another great podcast featured on the Podcast Pickle, Sturgeon’s Law.

Hit me up on the pickle, or if you want, you can write a review of Josh in Japan on Yahoo Podcasts, by visiting me on my Yahoo Podcasts Page.

Also, Please find a moment and fill out the podcasting survey I have going on. It’ll take 5 minutes of your time, and even though it’s a little more than just clicking a google ad, it will help me put together a paper to sell advertisers on the show….. which in turn will help me sound better…. which in turn will get you more entertainment…. which in turn will make you happier and more successful….

  1. Asking this question again since it was not replied to in the previous comment. You constantly say that you are “active duty” but I am curious as to what your rank or pay grade is and what your job is at the naval base.

  2. there’s a reason why i don’t mention or answer any questions answering this….

    if you have some sort of offer or something that requires that info, email me, if not, sorry….

  3. Have you been to a Seiyu store?
    If so, how was it?
    I’d like your comments on in-stock, selection, organization, every day low prices, crowds etc.

    Seiyu is Japan’s 4th largest supermarket chain operator and Wal-Mart is Seiyu’s largest shareholder. They are facilitating a gradual transition to a low-cost, low-price retailer.

  4. ***in the future, please post questions like this on the forums http://www.joshinjapan.com/forums ***

    yes,

    i went to livin yesterday, i seiyu store….

    it is just like any other japanese department store. clean, but similar to all others. it has almost no wal-mart feel….

    the only thing you notice wal-mart wise is that some of the signs have the smiley faces….

  5. Man…
    Hopefully this time you won’t just delete my comment. You kinda messed-up again on one of the phrases of the week.

    SCARY is not KAWAI (かわい) it’s KOWAI (こわい)
    Please don’t delete this message like the previous one…I was just trying to be nice, but whatever…

  6. Sorry about your dog…

  7. thanks dx3

  8. 600 million people in the US? Holy crap man! That would suck.

    Good show man- keep up the good work, gratz on the sponsor! You have a scooter? Sweet. I truly hope you find the pooch and next time -USE A COLLAR! I know, you know, still (as a dog lover) had to reiterate.

    This makes me wonder if the identity chip is popular or used at all in Japan considering how pricey dogs are.

    Also I wanted to mention that my friend’s dad is a guy who started Red Clay Records, its a leading bluegrass label in Japan. I met my friend, Hide, in Nashville, Tennessee.

    This is an article about his father and bluegrass in japan! I love bluegrass so I had to mention this too.
