Sorry to hear you're ill Josh - I hope you don't mind - I've linked to you on the podcast that my students of tourism are doing, trying to encourage them to listen to different travel-related podcasts.

Look forward to when you are back

Hi Josh,

Get well soon. I truley love the show and I don't think you should get paid. I think podcasting should be like a hobby and this podcast is great as it is - it's the best one out there and if you let in the sponsers I think you will start to lose your edge. If you want to earn money from podcasting i think you have the talents to do it some other way, please keep this podcast real - as long as possible.

Here's a little bit of Japanese culture stuff

When some tells you they are sick in Japan; you should reply with

大変ですね。。お大事に。。

which roughly translates as
that is too bad; get well soon.

The お大事 part will vary depending on the
politeness level of the conversation

google the term will bring up some interesting
Japanese get well soon cards as well

Hey guys,

Found this story on Japan Today and thought it was classic. Follows on beautifully from some of the Mainichi Daily News stories. A perfect example of 'non-news' from Japan! Check it out.

Thats good, because I need to catch up on all your podcasts! I'm up to the third one. the first one I ever listened to was #17, yesterday. And I can proudly say I have succumbed to your podcasting prowess! You're a great host and give good replies, not short and uniformative ones :) I have never been to Japan but hope to go one day.
Greetings from Australia!

hi joshinjapan

i am really enjoying your informative podcasts but have let less than positive comment ... the phrase "sucks ass" is repeated a few more times than i care to hear in the podcasts. while i am all for (pardon me) 'sailor speak' it isn't really what i am into for the podcasts. it doesn't seem professional.

that being said, i think that all other aspects of the podcasts are getting more professional sounding (i am only up to number eight so far). thanks for the great service.

What games are popular there that we would be familiar with here in the US? Do they play Monopoly, Sorry, Candyland, Yahtzee, checkers and chess? What about UNO and other cards games. I know the military influence must have spread the use of cards there. Are there Japanese games that you like that you could describe to us?
Thanks,
Dave
