new microphone
so, it finally arrived! thanks to all those who helped with the donations to make it arrive at my doorstep (well, PO box, but you get the drift)! Because I couldn’t just let it sit till the weekend, I had to break it open and see how well it worked. I recorded a new promo which can be found in this thread
here.
if i just post the file, it’ll end up as a podcast, and that’s not necessary. also, i go back to work tomorrow after being gone for almost 30 days so please wish me luck!
i apologize again to all of you who got stuck with the bad servers yesterday and partially today. and as for that wonderful company…. fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice……

Yo Josh!
Just listening to your podcast while working, but I got to the part where you talk about your tattoo and how you couldn’t take a bath. Apparently, from what my girlfriend told me, that tattoos are associated with the yakuza. I had been considering getting one myself, but with the possibility of going to Japan some day I decided to wait.
Can’t wait for the next post!

I found your podcast through iTunes when I searched for “travel” and I like your show a lot. Planning on visiting Japan (for business and pleasure) sometime in 2006. Thanks for the show

Hey Josh
I think you might of mentioned it on the show before, I’m not sure, but what new microphones did you purchase. I’m looking to start a podcast of my own, and I’m finding it hard to find information on the types of sound equipment podcasters use. I find information for everything else like creating RSS feeds and signing up on podcasting site, but nothing regarding purching semi decent sound equipment. Any light you can shed will be awesome.
B.T.W. if your interested I’m looking to start a podcast on “how to speak olde Kings English”, it’ll be funny, probably totally innacurate, but great.
Thanks
Rob

Rob, I use the MXL990. Great mic for only about $60 at musiciansfriend.com.
and Kings English? good luck. that sounds like it’ll be a funny show!

Josh;
I listened to your podcast of Akihabara and the new microphone was apparent from your first word! HUGE improvment in audio quality! Only $60! Wow!
Been listening a while and I enjoy the shows. We hosted a Japanese exchange student a couple of years ago and went to visit her and her family in Utsunomiya (Toshigi Ken). While we were there the Sakura bloomed. She was taking us on a bicycle tour and we went for a little walk. We crested this hill and the gully below us was just filled with cherry blossoms! I swear it took my breath away. People have to see it to believe it.
What I noticed in Japan where we were was the vending machines (have a couple of photos - they’re in the wierdest places) and bicycles. Everybody rides a bicycle (I am an avid cyclist). And they ride carrying an umbrella when it rains! By the way, my exchange student’s lived with her family and they owned a bicycle shop - Abe ringo.
Thanks! Keep the podcasts coming.
