episode #5 TRAINS

Sunday, July 31st, 2005 at 1:01 am

In episode #5 we discuss TRAINS, TRAINS, TRAINS…… How do you buy a ticket for a train in Japan? How do you figure out how much to pay? What is that dude doing to that girl in the school uniform?!?!?! You’ll find out with this episode!

As always, if you have any questions, comments or concerns, leave me a comment here on this post, or shoot me an email…… josh|at|joshinjapan|dot|com (spamalizer protection).

Also, if some of you Nihonjin’s out there find that I totally screwed something up (or Gaijin’s too for that matter), PLEASE email me and tell me so I can get the correct word out. Thanks, and happy listening!

bandwidth

Sunday, July 31st, 2005 at 12:53 am

i’ve just started to notice how much you lovely people are eating up my bandwidth! in one respect, i love it! i never thought i would reach anywhere above 20 subscribers! on the other hand, i need to find a solution, and fast. i like my host immensely, but they offer little to no support when it comes to giving a break for extra bandwidth…… $7 for 5GB extra. and that’s only on a month to month need, not total.

i need a little more than what I got going now, and a whole 5 gig will not cover me. i hate to say it, but i might have to switch to libsyn……….

more to come later, mata-ne…..

episode #4 DRIVING

Sunday, July 24th, 2005 at 9:17 pm

In episode #4, I discuss how to get a drivers license, the different vehicles, types of drivers you may experience, and the different types of roads that we have here. I have searched far and wide, and found some of what I promised you in the podcast…….

Here are the Road Signs that I promised you. I know the text is a bit small, but this is what I had to learn from!

Here are the pictures of the fairy vans that I promised you as well…..

And the last thing was a set of pictures of the decals for old, new, and disabled drivers. Unfortunately, I was only able to come up with this picture of a wakaba decal for the new drivers Wakabama decal……. if someone finds the other two, please let me know….. (i killed myself googling for these last night with no help from the wife!)

edit: Kazu-San who is from Yokohama sent me an email linking to the decals for the shoshinsha (new driver), koulesha (old driver), and shinshosha (handicapped driver) that I had discussed earlier….. thanks Kazu-San!

As always, please email me at josh@joshinjapan.com with any comments or suggestions for the show……..

until next time, mata-ne!

exciting day

Thursday, July 14th, 2005 at 10:20 pm

no podcast today. actually i don’t think i will have one out until either late sunday night or sometime on monday! i have a 12 hour shift on both fri and sat, and a 24 for all day sunday. who says being in a leadership position doesn’t have it’s benefits??? [/sarcasm].

so the numbers haven’t been too bad for only having two episodes out. i peaked at 27 one day. i’m now leveled off at around 14-18 people pinging me a day. not to shabby for a show with downright shitty sound quality.

it’s 10pm and i should go to sleep cause the plan was to wake up at 0430 to run…… no running tomorrow! w00t!!!

today we went out to Sanrio Puroland. i’m not sure why it’s called puroland (possible f’d up translation that i’m missing), but it’s an amusement park in tokyo that is run by the good folks at the sanrio corp., the fine makers of HELLO KITTY. yes, i gave in all for my sweet little demon girl! she’s just too cute to say no to. actually she didn’t ask, i said “let’s take a trip somewhere for the kid”, and the wife said “ok”. one of her friends took their kid to sesame street place, and i felt jealous that we haven’t taken our kid anywhere in a while so i divulged. i must be a terrible father since i only give in to make my kid happy out of pure jealousy!!! anyways, enroute she (the baby) fell asleep so we decided to go check out Tama Hills rec center. i’ve been in Japan for 4.5 years now and always wanted to check it out. being as it was an old munitions base for the imperial japanese military, i was all for driving around the base looking at old hollowed out bunkers and bomb making factories. i had a blast, and the wife was terrified. “there’s ghosts, i just know there’s ghosts”. hehehe

so we finally left tama hills and went back to puroland only to discover that it was closed today for maintenance. what type of f’n theme park closes on a thursday????? anyways, we headed back to the in-law’s house, got a haircut on the way back there, ate ramen for dinner (damn good btw), and i headed home on the train Scale not to sizeso the wifey could rest without having to worry about laundry for another day. my day in a nutshell. i think i will try to post more as i do more japanesy (new word) stuff. so, until next time, mata-ne…….

my first podcast

Monday, July 4th, 2005 at 2:16 pm

Well folks, here it is! It took many many months of preparation…… no it actually took about a day to do. I just had to get all my ducks in a row and finish everything that was on my list before I could start.

Well, in Episode #1 we talk about GOOD FOOD here in Japan. I just spoke about the food I like because this is MY PODCAST not yours. Get your own if you don’t like it! :) Give it a listen and please tell me what you think. (there WILL be music and other sounds than my voice for the next episode. I promise!!!) All comments are welcomed and requested!!! Well, until next time, mata-ne!
